The Man Standing Next Review
The Man Standing Next, also known as Hangul Hanja and Chief of Namsan, is a South Korean film directed by Woo Min Ho that was released in 2020. The film is a blend of both political drama and theatrical genres and is based on a true story, adapted from the novel Namsanui Bujangdeul and partially published in The Dong-A Ilbo in 1990 and 1992. The film follows the events leading up to the assassination of President Park Geun-Hye of South Korea, specifically focusing on the 40 days prior to the event.
The story of The Man Standing Next was written by Kim Choong sik and the film was produced by Ko Nak Sun, with co-production by Kim Jin-woo and Min-ho-woo under the hiva media and gemstone pictures production companies. The film has a runtime of 114 minutes and was distributed by Showbox. It was released for screening on January 22, 2020, and quickly rose to the top of the box office charts, remaining there until February 4.
The film features a talented cast led by Lee Byung-hun, Lee Sung-min, and Kwak Do-won. Lee Byung-hun's performance in particular was praised, earning him the Best Actor award at the 2020 (56th) Baeksang Arts Awards. The film as a whole was also recognized, winning the award for Best Picture at the 2020 (41st) Blue Dragon Film Awards. The Man Standing Next True Story is based on the former president of Korea. The Man Standing Next (2020), Chief of Namsan (2020) Korean Film Story
* d'etat or May 16 coup: On May 16, 1961, a military coup took place in South Korea. It was organized and activated by Park Chung Hee and his closest associates, led by the Military Revolutionary Association. This is considered to be the nominal directing man because of the indifferent policy of Army Commander Chang Do Yong on the day of the uprising.
The uprising was launched against the democratically elected government of Yun Posun. This led to the collapse of the Second Republic of Korea. Under Park Chun's government, which came to power after the coup, Korea began to develop rapidly, but democracy and civil liberties were limited.
He created Korea's first intelligence unit, the KCIA, and began killing and crushing his opponents. Eventually, however, the people began to revolt against him, and American pressure to overthrow him increased. He was finally assassinated after 18 years in power.
* Koreagate: - This incident, which is mentioned at one point in the film, took place in 1976. Coriagate is considered to be the most infamous incident involving 1976 Korean and American politicians.
The incident has been caused by the bribery and pressure of ten members of the United States Parliament. The ultimate goal was to pressure US President Richard Nixon to reverse his decision to withdraw his troops from South Korea.
In 1970, President Park retained control of the KCIA, Also Kim Hyung-Wook was a South Korean brigadier general. with its leader, Kim Gyu Pyong considered the second most powerful ruler in Korea at the time.
The film opens with Park Young Gak, a former KCIA intelligence chief, testifying before the US House of Representatives against the South Korean president.
He is preparing to publish a handbook on the corrupt rule of the President. In response, President Park sent Kim Gyu Pyeong, then KCIA chief, to Washington to stop it. There, Park gives him the evidence and stays in America.
After this, Kim will return to Korea as the head of intelligence. Conflicts with GWAK SAND CHEO, the head of Presidential Security.
In the ensuing controversy, the president finally orders Kim's intelligence chief to assassinate former intelligence chief Park Young. But in the meantime, gwak sends another group to France at his own will and eventually kills Park young.
But after this, the conflict between gwak and Kim gradually escalated to the assassination of the president and gwak security chief on October 26, 1976.
