Barroz, directed by Mohanlal in his directorial debut, is a Malayalam-language fantasy film based on Jijo Punnoose's novel "Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure". Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, the film stars Mohanlal as Barroz, alongside an international cast, including Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, and Ignacio Mateos.

Released on 25 December 2024, Barroz presents the story of a Malabari slave entrusted with safeguarding Vasco da Gama's treasure. Despite its high-budget production, 3D visuals, and contributions from industry stalwarts like Santosh Sivan (cinematography) and Mark Kilian (score), the film received mixed-to-negative reviews. Critics praised its ambitious attempt, 3D effects, and visual appeal, but the script, screenplay, editing, and certain performances drew criticism, making it a box office failure with collections around ₹20 crores against a ₹150 crore budget.

Shot predominantly in Kochi and Goa, with additional sequences in Bangkok and Chennai, the film marks a unique cinematic experience, though it fell short of expectations.
