Superboys of Malegaon (2025) English Subtitle - Superboys of Malegaon Shines with Heart and Humor
Superboys of Malegaon is a heartwarming tribute to passion, perseverance, and the power of dreams. Directed by Reema Kagti and written by Varun Grover, this Hindi-language coming-of-age film draws inspiration from Supermen of Malegaon (2008), the acclaimed documentary by Faiza Ahmad Khan. Set in the quirky, cinema-loving town of Malegaon, the film captures the spirit of grassroots filmmaking with charm, humor, and soul.
At its core, Superboys of Malegaon is the story of Nasir (played brilliantly by Adarsh Gourav), a young dreamer who believes in the magic of movies. With a group of equally eccentric but lovable friends, including Farogh (Vineet Kumar Singh), Shafique (Shashank Arora), and Akram (Anuj Singh Duhan), Nasir sets out to make a low-budget film that reflects the hopes, struggles, and dreams of their small-town lives.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2024 and hit Indian cinemas on 28 February 2025. It garnered praise for its authenticity and emotional depth. While the box office collection of ₹5.35 crore may seem modest, the film’s heart and humor have made it a critical favorite, scoring an 8/10 on IMDb.
Reema Kagti brings Malegaon to life with affection, never mocking its characters but instead celebrating their courage to dream big with minimal means. The screenplay by Varun Grover is witty, layered, and emotionally resonant, peppered with cultural references and clever observations. Swapnil S. Sonawane’s cinematography gives the film a grounded yet vibrant aesthetic, while Anand Subaya’s editing keeps the pace fluid and engaging.
The performances are stellar across the board. Adarsh Gourav delivers a nuanced portrayal of Nasir—vulnerable, hopeful, and driven. Vineet Kumar Singh and Shashank Arora shine in their respective roles, adding humor and depth. The ensemble cast, including Riddhi Kumar and Muskkaan Jaferi, enhances the story’s emotional layers.
Scored by Sachin-Jigar, the music adds flavor to the narrative without overshadowing it. Songs are used sparingly but meaningfully, adding texture to this heartfelt tale.
In a world driven by glossy blockbusters, Superboys of Malegaon stands as a reminder that passion can thrive anywhere—even in a modest town with second-hand equipment and limitless dreams.
