Vishnu Priya (2025) English Subtitle - A 90s-Era Romance Wrapped in Family Emotions
Vishnu Priya is a poignant Kannada-language romantic drama released on 21 February 2025, directed by the acclaimed V. K. Prakash. Written by Ravi Srivatsa and based on a real-life story penned by Sindhushree, the film is set in the 1990s and explores themes of love, sacrifice, and familial devotion. Featuring Shreyas Manju and Priya Prakash Varrier—who makes her Kannada debut—the film is an emotional journey rooted in nostalgia and cultural warmth.
At its heart, Vishnu Priya is about Vishnu, a loving son played by Shreyas Manju, who goes to great lengths to protect and reunite his family. His life takes a transformative turn when he meets Priya (Priya Prakash Varrier), leading to a tender but complex love story. The film stands out for its strong emotional core, and the bond between family members feels deeply authentic.
Shreyas Manju delivers a matured performance, showing noticeable growth from his earlier roles. Priya Prakash Varrier brings grace and subtlety to her character, making a strong impression in her Kannada debut. Achyuth Kumar and Suchendra Prasad, playing the protagonists’ fathers, add weight to the narrative with their seasoned presence.
The film’s music by Gopi Sundar is another highlight, marking his much-awaited return to Kannada cinema after Vijayanand (2022). Songs like "Elu Girigala" and "Summane Summane" beautifully complement the film’s nostalgic tone. With lyrics by V. Nagendra Prasad and soulful renditions by singers like Harish Sivaramakrishnan and Priya Prakash Varrier herself, the soundtrack is a treat for music lovers.
Visually, A. Vinod Bharathi’s cinematography captures the 90s era with subtle lighting and earthy palettes, while Suresh Urs’ editing maintains a steady rhythm despite a few pacing issues in the second half. Delayed due to post-production challenges, the film has nonetheless been met with appreciation for its heartfelt storytelling and emotional resonance.
Vishnu Priya may not reinvent the genre, but it tells a familiar story with sincerity and warmth, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of emotional, family-centered cinema.
